The Sierra Leone Labour Congress on Friday 8th May brought together representatives from various workers union in a sensitization meeting held at its Wallace Johnson Street office in Freetown. Officials from NASSIT and Home Finance Company, Mortgage and Savings (SL) LTD sensitized participants on activities of their organizations.
The chairman of the meeting, Muctarr Babatunde Williams in his opening statement expressed appreciation to NASSIT for taking such a bold step to sensitize workers on benefits and Validation of past Service. He further explained that only those workers whose names were on the payroll of the Accountant General as at 1st January, 2002 are qualified for the Validation of Past Service. This is applicable only to civil servants, Teachers, Police and the Military. John Bosco Alieu further stated that all employees have the right to take legal action against their employers if the employers fail to pay the 15% contribution per worker to NASSIT.
Mr. Abdul Bangura, Head of Internal Control of the HFC, Mortgage and Savings (SL) Ltd. said the Mortgage Finance Company was set up by NASSIT to help improve the lives of citizens by offering loans and housing facilities. Mr. Bangura further explained that the HFC Mortgage and Savings Limited was established to help Sierra Leoneans live in a better housing facility by investing in housing and giving them to people who will pay for those houses within a  maximum  period of twenty years. He also revealed that the Home Mortgage Finance Bill has recently been ratified by parliament. He pledged his company’s determination to make housing rentage a thing of the past.
