Resident Minister of State East Hon. Andrew Ansu Fatoma has officially opened a Scientific Laboratory Centre at the Kenema Correctional Centre. He described the initiative as one of President Bio’s development agendas for the people of the country. He called on the officers and nurses to protect and make good use of the facility in the interest of the inmates and the community in the near future.
Dr. Donald Grant, Kenema District Medical Officer, said the lab facility at the Kenema Correctional Center is an “opportunity move” in the interest of all inmates, as the facility is only meant for inmates at the centre for now. He said the lab will help diagnose illnesses including TB and assured all of their commitment to monitor the lab.
The Deputy Regional Commander East, Sierra Leone Correctional Center, Kenema, Superintendent Moses Conteh, said the facility was constructed by UNDP in collaboration with DHMT Kenema as the centre is faced with lots of constraints in terms of transporting sick inmates from the centre to the government hospital to access medical attention.
He commended government and partners for the gesture and used the opportunity to assure all of the judicious use of the lab facility.
