An ex-military officer Rtd. Maj. Patrick Kwegor Amara who served as Minister of Youths, Sport and Social Mobilization during the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) has confirmed that the standard bearer of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) is father of Sierra Leone’s democracy.
The Retired Major who was also NPRC Commander of the Presidential Guard, in a Press Conference organized at SLAJ Headquarters, supposedly geared towards battering the claims that Rtd. Brig.Maada Bio is father of democracy, rather ended up confirming that the SLPP presidential candidate is indeed indisputably, the father of the system of government we are operating on today, ‘democracy’.
The ex-military officer, having explained that he has decided to pitch tent with the ruling All Peoples Congress Party (APC) “in the interest of development”, and that Rtd. Brig. Maada Bio “is not the father of democracy as he claims”, could not justify who actually handed power to civil rule, when he was prone to questions from journalists.
Rtd. Maj. Kwegor in reply to a barrage of questions, whether knowingly or unknowingly, did admit that “Rtd. Captain V.E.M. Strasser (former head of State) was not willing to hand over power to civilian rule”, leading to justification of the fact that Rtd. Brig. Maada Bio did when he headed the NPRC leadership; authenticating the claim that “he is father of democracy”.
In reply to further questions, Rtd. Maj. Kwegor Amara, who also served as Commander of Presidential Guard for Rtd. Capt. Strasser and a Minister, blatantly denied the fact “he had no idea of the extra-judicial killing of 29 people during their (NPRC) regime” a situation Rtd. Bio has accepted under collective responsibility.
However, Kwegor told the Press that when he came from abroad, where he went for studies after the NPRC reign, he decided to give his unflinching support to President Ernest Bai Koroma for “his developmental initiative and his poise to move the country forward”, and declared Rtd. Brig. Bio as “unfit for the race and as he has no leadership characteristics” but again failed to explain to the press, why Maada lacks leadership charisma.
Kwegor, moreover failed to unravel several questions asked by the press, ranging to his connection with Maada Bio under whom he served as Minister, and Valentine Strasser whom he served as Commander of his guard.
