Krio young adults donate to AJF

Krio Descendants Union (KDU) Northeast branch young adults have made a donation to the Asmaa James Foundation on Monday 1st February at their 23 Bathurst street office.

Making the donation on behalf of the young adults was Mr Sigismond Ogoo who said that the items should have arrived since 2019, but due to the corona virus they were unable to ship them until now.
He said the young adults of the association are the sons and daughters of the parents that have been making usual donations to Library Board, King George’s Home, giving scholarships to students.

“We have been doing all these and they decided that they too can start doing something, and for that reason they came together to make sure that these items they are donating will help young girls and others that the Asmaa James Foundation has been helping. They have been reading about the foundation on line and they were impressed with the work done and even I too was impressed and that is the reason why they said they need to help in their own little way.”

Mr Ogoo said they will continue to give support to those who need them in Sierra Leone as they would always want to identify with the suffering masses in the country.

Receiving the items from Mr Ogoo, Asmaa James said she was not expecting such at this time but was very grateful to the young adults of KDU Northeast to have thought of their counterparts in Sierra Leone.
She said her organization has been working to help prison inmates with sanitary pads, food and other items that are needed, and have also been helping young girls that are vulnerable and those that have been raped.

“These items donated would be of great importance to these girls and inmates … they have come the right time. The foundation really appreciates what these young Sierra Leoneans in the United States have done and we want to thank them and hope that this will not be the last, but the beginning of a fruitful relationship for the future.”
She said the distribution will be made and they will make sure that they report back to them so that they will see how it was done for accountability purpose.

Asmaa James thanked Mr Ogoo and wife for the support.

Items donated include tooth brush, tooth paste, soap, towel, body lotion, body cream and clothes.
