A delegation from M.K International Inc from the Republic of Korea on Monday (February 4) paid courtesy calls on First Lady SiaNyama Koroma, Vice President Chief Alhaji Sam Sumana and the Minister of Local Government Finda Diana Konomanyi.
The purpose of the visit, according to the President and Chairman of M.K. International Inc, Dr. Hae-Jung Jung was to discuss economic relations, industrialization of the country, agriculture, infrastructural development to enhance diplomatic relations and to also push forward the relationship between Asia and Africa.
Dr. Hae-Jung Jung was accompanied to the State lodge, Vice President’s Office and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development by some of his professional engineers and two local coordinators, Alfred Gbakima and Safea Lesley Moiwa and others from Guinea.
At the meeting with the First Lady, the Founder and Chairman, Dr Hae-Jung Jung congratulated President Koroma on his re-election and said his country is pleased to strengthen ties with Sierra Leone.
He explained that the group was founded in 1981 in Massachusetts of USA and is operating in 41 countries around the world, investing in industrial engineering and international trading activities and then diversified in 1990’s covering manufacturing, consulting engineers for the various development of the projects of residential, commercial, industrial, environment, as well as infrastructural works.
The Chairman said that their number one goal is to serve their clients to the best of their ability, and to establish long-term relationships in order that they can grow up together.
He said he was in Sierra Leone during President Tejan Kabbah’s regime and has helped to put Sierra Leone on the map again after the war.
He said they have been doing business in Africa since 1983, in 21 countries with highly qualified technical and managerial experts, adding that they have increased their business capacity in the area of larger scale of industrial engineering, project developments and international financing in the 2000s, in order to meet the global requirements for the 21st century.
He said without industrialization, that country is going to find it difficult with its economy.
The Founder disclosed his company’s willingness to invest in the country on areas such as housing development and industrialisation, agriculture, infrastructure, among others.
In her statement, First Lady Sia Nyama Koroma welcomed the team and said it was a honour to have them in her midst.
She said Sierra Leone few years ago, was categorised as a post conflict country, basically for poor social economic status, poor infrastructure. But the government has made changes and we are climbing up the ladder and things are getting better.
The First Lady said the President means well for Sierra Leoneans, so he is trying to run the country like a corporate entity, adding that Sierra Leone is rich in natural resources and have beautiful coastline beaches.
Mrs. Koroma assured them that this time the government has the will and the intention of managing the resources properly … so the country is open for business. ‘We do welcome people who want to invest in Sierra Leone, but we are looking for genuine partnership and genuine people’.
She said, as First Lady of the land, “I want to assure you that I will support you because I mean well for my people and want to leave a positive legacy when we leave power”.
The First Lady wished them well in Sierra Leone and hoped everything goes on well with them.
