In an effort to compliment government and NGOs operating in the country to boost the standard of education the Kono Diamond Dealers Association has constructed a five class room building for the Islamic Call Society Primary School in Koaquima in the Kono district.
The chairman of the Association in Koidu Musa Mansoo said at the commissioning ceremony of the primary school that education is at the top of their development priorities. He disclosed that they have plans to award scholarship to deserving students in the Kono district.
“Construction of the school structure is just the start of their developmental stride to complement Government’s effort in improving on the standard of education” Musa Mansoo said.
He called upon all diamond miners within the district to sell diamonds to the Association to enable them to raise funds to embark on more developmental projects for the district in the country.
The chairman also appealed to management of the Islamic Call Society Primary School to utilise the building in the interest of the Koaquima community.
In his opening address the chairman of the programme who is also the Deputy Director of Education (DDE) Kono district Tamba Thomas Komba commended the Association for what he described as a sacrifice to the nation’s development aspiration in face lifting the educational system in the district.
He said the government alone cannot fully address the educational needs of the people except with support from other quarters noting that education is a cornerstone to the development of every nation.
The Town Chief of Koaquima Chief Komba Gbongo noted that in the past diamond mining had hampered the future of many children and devastated the educational structure in the district.
Chief Gbongo called on people to send their children especially the girl child to school
