Koidu Holdings has donated Le30m for the rehabilitation of electricity supply within the Kono township. Revealing the gesture the company’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Rex Bonafa, said it was the duty of Koidu Holdings to lend a helping hand in a situation where help was much needed, emphasizing that they were committed to development.
He further assured that they as a company would ensure that whatever was beneficial to the people of Kono and the entire district “becomes our priority”.
The PRO further lamented that, “Koidu township has gone without electricity for a longer period, [and] now it is high time for us as an institution to do something about it.”
Responding to the gesture, Paramount Chief Paul Gerber Saquee said, “it is not surprising for such a positive gesture from Koidu Holdings,” noting that they had always expressed concerns whenever the need arose.
PC Saquee assured that the Le30m donation would go a long way towards the project and therefore appealed to other mining companies within the district to contribute positively towards the realization of the energy project.
According to our Kono correspondent, a committee comprising technocrats from all walks of life based in Freetown have been mandated to take responsibility of the project.
