The first set of the Local Council Elections results for the Eastern region have been announced at the Holy Trinity Parish hall along Blama road in Kenema by the NEC Commissioner East Sylvanus Torto.
Addressing his audience the Commissioner East said the results will be coming to the people in bits and the second segment is expected to be announced on Monday 14th July 2008, the third on the 18th July 2008 and the final on the 22nd July 2008.
He said on the 24th July certificates will be distributed to the winners in Kenema, Kailahun and Kono districts.
He said one of the main reasons why the results are being announced in bits is to ease the tension. He said all areas where candidates have complaints will be investigated before they are announced.
After the announcement most of the people were grumbling that they were not expecting NEC to come pronounce the result in such a manner saying that NEC wants to be unfair with the East. Some threatened that this time round they will not take it from anybody.
Speaking to the Senior Election Officer East Philip Kargbo, he said more security measures would be put in place for the subsequent announcements
