Police personnel detailed at Bandama check point along the Kenema Bo highway last Wednesday 7th February arrested a woman around 7:30pm who was in possession of a single barrel short gun.
The woman one Katumu Senesie was travelling in a mini bus with Registration number ACH 564 driven by one Momoh Amara of 12 Kalilu street. Upon reaching Bandama checkpoint the police embarked on their routine check, and during the process they found the shot gun hidden in a black valise bag under the protection of Katumu Senesie.
When Katumu was questioned she confessed that the gun was given to her by her husband a soldier serving in the Sierra Leone Armed Forces Corporal 18171015 Morie Bao of 11 Battalion in Kambia for the purpose of safe delivery to her uncle Kenei Alhaji of Nyadehun junction near Daru. According to Katumu her uncle was a former kamajor fighter who earlier on demanded a shot gun to be used for hunting in his plantation in his home.
Meanwhile as at press time Katumu Senesie and the gun were still in police custody in Kenema. Speaking to Awoko the Regional Operation officer east Alfred Dassama said he is not surprised at the catch at Bandama checkpoint saying that he knew what his men are capable of doing.
He said the latest catch will act as a signal to all and sundry especially armed robbers who may tend to escape from the police net in Freetown to the interior.
He advised people who are in the habit of risking themselves by getting into the proliferation of short guns in the country to stop immediately or else warned that they will face the full penalty of the law.
