Ambassadors of Development in collaboration with Civil Peace Service Network and partners have joined the world in observance of International Day of Peace 2020 that usually falls on 21st September every year. The Kenema district observance was a week of activities jointly undertaken with the security apparatus. The actual day started at the newly established Peace Garden at the regional police headquarter where the regional police commander east, assistant inspector general of police Thomas Mohamed Lahai, addressed both the security forces and the public about the day.
He called on the security forces to discharge their duties with a human face, adding that the security forces hailed from the community, and would return there after retirement. He said the relationship between the security apparatus and the public is always cordial, and would only sour when the public, mostly the youth, are in conflict with the law. Ambassador Swaliho Mahatma Kanneh said the International Day of Peace is a United Nations declared day that is observed annually, with the first one celebrated in 1981.
Musa Ganga, tribal chancellor, Mama Africa, in his contribution said “this is the first time the security forces have taken an active part in the process both physically and financially” on the theme: “Shaping Peace Together”. The day’s observers planted flowers in the Peace Garden, symbolising peace, and called on all and sundry to work on maintaining the peace in the region.
