The MP of Constituency 9 in Kenema, Mathew Sahr Nyuma in partnership with Defense for Children International Sierra Leone (DCI-SL), has donated hospital materials worth millions of Leones to the government hospital in that city.
In his statement the president of DCI-SL, Moses Zombo, said his organization was always in to help the vulnerable women and children.
He said the items were from America from a citizen of Kenema, Mathais Sesay. Mr Zombo called on all to join hands in eradicating maternal mortality rate in the country, adding that DCI had many available opportunities to help the community.
Presenting the items to the superintendent on behalf of the hospital, Mathew Sahr Nyuma said he joined politics to develop the people of Kenema and the country as a whole.
He called on all to come together and undertake development drive for the country, and appealed to all to put the country first before anything else.
“What is for the people must reach the people,” the MP noted, and asked every one to be very honest at all times.
He explained how he cried to his brothers to join him to help the people in terms of health, stating that the hospital should be for professional and not political business.
Receiving the items the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Alimamy Philip Koroma thanked Nyuma and DCI for their effort in making the gesture to the hospital, saying that the latest consignment was highly needed by the hospital.
He said there had been improvements at the hospital since he took over and appealed to all not to bring politics into the running of the hospital.
Dr Koroma promised to establish a special unit for rape victims with a doctor assigned to it.
Ibrahim Mustapha Hakawa was one of the beneficiaries of the items donated.
