The newly sworn in Councilors of the Kenema City Council (KCC) headed by Chief Brima Kargbo as the Mayor last Monday held their first meeting at the Kenema City Council hall along Reservation road in Kenema city, during which the former Deputy Mayor Margaret Adama Siaka retained her post.
The Mayor Chief Brima Kargbo in his opening remarks expressed thanks and appreciation to the people of Kenema for voting them in as councilors of the Kenema City council. He appealed to the councilors to be honest, committed and friendly with the people but to efficiently work with them to generate revenue for the council and for the development of the Kenema city.
Chief Kargbo stressed that the expectation of the electorates is to see positive performance of the council in service delivery especially on road rehabilitation which is the main priority for Kenema city.
In his statement the Paramount Chief of Nongowa Chiefdom in the Kenema District PC Alhaji Amara Bonya Vangahun first congratulated the Mayor and councilors of the Kenema City Council. PC Vangahun urged the councilors to be united and work as a formidable team for development and for the expected service delivery for all. He analyzed the importance of revenue collection in terms of development and appealed to all and sundry in Kenema city to pay their taxes to the council so that the expected goal will be achieved.
During the meeting the Mayor and his councilors unanimously resolved to meet with the Hon. Resident Minister East William Juana Smith and the Provincial Administration East for their valuable advice and understanding for the promotion of peace and development in the council and the region as a whole.
The councilor elected as chairpersons of the various committees includes Market committee to be headed by councilor Mohamed Seventy Sesay, Development Planning and Street naming committee to be headed by councilor Moriba M. Koroma,
Financing budget and establishment committee to be headed by councilor Yatta Sama,
Agriculture and Food Security committee to be headed by councilor Joseph Alpha,
Health committee to be headed by councilor Anthony Fornie, Education Youths and Sport committee of the city to be headed by councilor Amidu T.Bah, Transport and Communication committee to be headed by councilor Alicious Vibbi, Bye law committee to be headed by councilor Amidu Bah, Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs committee to be headed by councilor Esther Kaisamba, Work committee to be headed by councilor Abubakarr Sesay, Fire force committee to be headed by councilor Salieu Vandi Gbao, Waste committee to be headed by the Deputy Mayor Madam Margaret Adama Siaka, Public Relation and Media committee to be headed by councilor Amidu B. Bah,
Valuation, assessment and licenses committee to be headed by councilor Roland Bernet.
The Mayor, the Deputy and the councilors of the Kenema City Council promised to be in frequent consultation with the community and called on all and sundry in Kenema City to come up with ideas and possible solution for both development and service delivery system for their communities so that they can live to their expectation during their term of office
