The Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD) has conducted elections for the Kenema District Youth Executive which will Mann the affairs of the youths in the district for the next two years.
The election took place at the Kenema Youth Sport Club along Mahei Vangahun road in Kenema, which brought youth groups together from Nongowa, Small Bo, Lower Bambara, Kandu Leppiama, Tunkia, Simbaru, Dama, and Gaura chiefdoms in the Kenema district.
In his welcome address the Regional Director of NMJD Beny Sam welcomed all participants to the meeting and called on them to be healthy in their behaviours in their various communities by so doing engaging themselves into meaningful activities saying that democracy is all about access to resources.
Mr. Sam said that the youths are Ambassadors for their communities and now that election is over, it is now the time for them to show all that they are new a youth group for development and progress.
He appealed to them all to be law abiding in their localities.
Explaining about the purpose of the meeting the Programme Manager Sia Shirley Simbo said it is good for all youths groups in the district to be under the District Youth Coalition which has been existing for years, pointing out that the last executive did not include the various chiefdoms but this time round it will reflect all chiefdoms.
Simbo says the Coalition is not owned by NMJD but they are answerable to the government and that their target is to cover the entire district not only the eight out of the sixteen chiefdoms. She called on all youth groups in the various chiefdoms to support their executive.
In his statement the Regional Officer for youths in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport Mark Sesay thanked NMJD for their role in complimenting government’s effort toward youth affairs.
He encouraged the new executive that will be coming on board to encourage all youth groups in the various chiefdoms to register with the government pointing out that the government will not operate with illegal groups.
Mrs. Alice McCarthy the NMJD Administrator in her contribution appealed to the youths to be responsible and transparent in their activities and by so doing they will remain united.
Officials of the National Election Commission (NEC) conducted the election and at the end of the election the post of chairmanship went to the incumbent Emmanuel Farma who was elected in absentia.
The post of the vice-chairperson went to Sallay Thomas. John M.A.S. Dogboi became the secretary while Francis M.K.Tongboi became the Assistant Social Secretary.
The financial secretary post went to Victoria Barnard, the posts of Public Relation Officer (PRO) 1 and 2 and Social Secretary went to Emmanuel Dassama, Jeneh Feika and Emmanuel Benya. Abu Tarawally and Mohamed Fofanah became the Assistant Social Secretary and Project Officer; Kadiatu Kanneh became the Assistant Project Officer while Sheku Fornie took the post of Chief Auditor.
