The Kenema City Council on Monday March 30th held a meeting with various stakeholders to give an update of their activities on the council’s development plans. Addressing the meeting the Acting Mayor, councilor Yalta Sama who served as the chairperson of the meeting said that the meeting was part of the council’s usual meetings to foster interactions and tracking of development programs in the Kenema city.
Giving an update on the collection of dues in the city by the development committees of the Kenema city councils, Madam Yatta Sama reported that for the month of March 2009 a total sum of Le 68,287 for the months of March 2009. She described the turn out of tax payers as satisfactory and encourages those evading payment to cooperate.
Talking about the run down of the Kenema city council expenditure the acting Mayor says the councils expended 48 million Leones on maintenance and development in the city. Contributing, the chairman of the Ward Development Committee councilor Abu Bakarr Sesay disclosed that the Kenema City council has succeeded in the rehabilitation of the roads of the major streets in the city. He assured the people of their commitment to embarking on more developments with the cooperation of tax payers. On another note Councillor Bakarr appealed to SLRA for consultations with the council on the road maintenance.
