The Kambia District Council Chairman Alhaji Osman Sheriff Fofana has been sacked and succeeded by Councillor S.S.A Sankoh who will act until the July 5 local government elections..
This was made public by the district chairman of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Mr Ibrahim Sorie at a stake- holders meeting in Kambia.
He explained that that decision was in accordance with section 63 of the local council act and reached after confirmation that the substantive chairman proceeded on what is perceived to be a “French leave” about a month without any official handing over procedure.
Our correspondent say the chairman declined to comment on the issue, but sources say he was out of the country to perform the muslim pilgrimage but did not give any written handing over note before his departure.
The action our correspondent continued angered his deputy councillor Nabie Yayah Yillah which prompted him to resign.
Concerned residents alleged that both the chairman and his deputy have failed the district in their various capacities.
