Some children in Kailahun town have received training on the production of children’s programmes on the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service (SLBS) FM 95.1.
The mini workshop and the monitoring visit, sponsored by UNAID and implemented by Informatrac, reviewed programmes produced before by children of SLBS in Kailahun.
Addressing participants earlier in the workshop the facilitator, Sahr Moses Mbayo, told Awoko that UNAID and Informatrac aimed to train over 100 children across the country to take up the responsibility of producing and presenting children’s programmes at radio stations countrywide.
On the theme of the workshop participating children produced thirty minutes programmes on selected topics or issues.
During the interaction with the children Mr Mbayo asked them about the type of programme they had produced before which, according to them, included girls’ education, teenage pregnancy, early marriage, and child trafficking among others. On issues facing children in Kailahun district, the children said this included school dropout, rape, lack of parental care, street children and influence by peer groups in drug taking and other social acts.
Mr Mbayo also showed the children the task involved in producing and preparing a radio programme.
