The director of Songhai project, based in the USA, has visited Kailahun district on the invitation of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Speaking to Awoko in Kailahun town in Luawa chiefdom, Songhai’s director Fr. Godfrey Nzumujo says the Songhai project is an integrated development project for Africa supported by the UN and the US.
He states that his visit to Kailahun is twofold: one is to give a message to my fellow Africans on how to get back to the driver’s seat and to develop their capacities to take care of themselves so that Africans can be respected in the world.
The other reason, Fr. Nzumujo notes, is to do evaluation on the possibilities existing in this region and to see how the Songhai system can fit into it. Speaking on the programme package, he stresses that they will ensure that nothing is wasted, and adds that they will support young people who can now work in different spheres of life and all will be integrated.
Talking about the road condition in Kailahun district, Fr. Nzumujo states that no meaningful development will take place with such bad roads in the district.
He maintains that he will take the information to his compatriots as a full need of the people of Kailahun district.
He concludes that he will ensure that the project takes off as quick as possible.
