Less than a month to the Presidential and Parliamentary elections which will see the end of his term as President, Alhaji Dr Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, has again made new promises which he proposes to deliver before he bows out of office.
President Kabbah made the new promise while speaking at the passing out parade of 174 recruits of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) at the training center at Benguema Barracks.
The commandant of the armed forces training center Lt. Col. M M Samura whilst giving an overview of the training, used the opportunity to ask President Kabbah that “as a parting gift, to implore the Sierra Leone roads authority to do our access roads which is in bad shape.”
Reacting to the request President Kabbah replied “it is not enough merely to have a professionally trained military the force must also have a conducive operational environment in order to be effective and efficient in the field.”
The President said “I heard loud and clear the request that was made to me to approach the roads authority about the roads to bring it to standard.” adding “I shall do my very best.”
Speaking about the welfare of the military, President Kabbah explained that his government had improved the terms and conditions of service for the military after years of neglect by previous governments.
He reminded the soldiers that the effective date for the implementation of what had been approved for them was at the end of this month.
President Kabbah also informed the recruits that his government made sure that the problem of accommodation was effectively addressed in a bid to ensure that officers and their dependants were decently housed.
