The only water bowzer that was serving the University with pure water estimated at $75,000 can no longer supply water after it crashed in an accident.
The water bowzer was among the gifts from the Libyan Government to Sierra Leone which was given by the former University Chancellor, Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah for the use of the University.
It was used to supply water to the Administrative offices attached to the Registry, the Vice- Chancellor’s office, the constituent Colleges of College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences at Kossoh town, Fourah Bay College and  the Institute of Public Administration and Management.
A source at the University’s office who does not want to be quoted explained over the weekend to Awoko that the damage of the water bowzer will greatly affect the University as the location of the constituent Colleges are without pipe borne water.
The source explained that the driver of the vehicle was returning from supplying water to the College of Medicine at Kossoh when he was caught up in traffic on Goderich street where the damage took place. The source recounted that the driver of the water bowzer told him that at around 7:30 p.m, he was immediately behind a trailer carrying a 40ft container and sensing that the container vehicle was struggling, the bowzer driver kept a distance from it until the trailer failed to climb the Goderich street hill.
The source explained further that according to the driver when the trailer could not climb the hill it hit a house, reversed with speed and rammed the University water bowzer smashing the windscreen and forcing it backwards to somersault over the bridge resting on a house.
According to the source, the University is waiting for the driver to recover from pains after which the University will write to their solicitor to take legal action against the owner of the trailer carrying the container.
However, the source could not give an estimate of the cost of the water bowzer but some vehicle dealers contacted gave an estimate of about $75,000.
