The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in collaboration with JICA has concluded a two day lecture on the Fiscal and Monetary Policies under the Fixed and Flexible Exchange Rate System at the Atlantic Hall in Freetown
The guest lecturer, Professor, Motoyosih Suzuki of JICA pointed out that the lecture is to upscale the analytical competencies of officials involved in the formulation and implementation of Macro Economic policies in Sierra Leone. He underscored the impact of fiscal and monetary function on the economy pointing out that under a fixed exchange rate system, expansionary fiscal policy is very effective.
Professor Suzuki further threw light on tax revenue and government expenditure, import, saving, speculative demand, and transaction demand for money functions.
In his opening statement the Deputy Minister (1) Dr Richard Conteh said the lecture would add value to the efficient performance of participants in the formulation and implementation of the fiscal and monetary policies in the country. He updated the participants with the activities and achievements of JICA in the entire sub region.
Dr Richard Conteh noted that Professor Suzuki has over the years conducted several training and capacity building programmes in micro-economic and financial programming and polices which has benefited a good number of officials in the Public Sector. He commended JICA for their development assistance towards Sierra Leone and their commitment to sustained capacity building for officials in the country.
