Former flag bearer candidate of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara has called for immediate peace in the party as he believes that if the party continues down that road then it will be extremely difficult for the party to regain power in 2023. He said he wants the executive members of the party to first accept that APC is not in power and they must treat every matter in the party very seriously with respect and love for one another. “As a true member of the party, I am representing our chairman and leader of the party; I am determined to prove the commission wrong about him. It is the same for other lawyers representing executive members of the party. We are not doing it for money, but we are doing it for the love of the party and to continue to protect them to keep the party going. We want to see our party flourish and we have swallowed so much and turned a new leaf because we love APC.”
The learned lawyer said because of his quietness he has been linked with NRM and some people have already despised him for that. He said even though it has been made clear that he is not a member of NRM some people want to use that to score political points. “As I have said in the past I am not a member of any political group within the APC, but a strong member of the party who believes that if we have to win State House come 2023, we must be united by not allowing any court matter to distract us or any infighting within the party. We must make sure that the executive listens to those that are aggrieved and to use dialogue to solve the problem.” Lawyer Joseph Kamara averred that he is ready to broker peace in the current impasse between the NRM and the party because time is not on the side of the party if they want to win 2023. He said they should not forget that APC was in power for 10 years and most of the executive members and other top officials in the party to always recall the last 10 years in office and how the politics was playing out.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
Mr Kamara noted that most of the executive members know and supported members of the NRM during their college days and they must listen and bring them to the round table because there will be no other way to bring peace in the party. “If we continue with NRM going to court the end result will mean that we are allowing the government of the day to infiltrate them and put our party into disarray and when that happens we will not be able to see our dream come true. The time is now for us to unite the party and make the executive very formidable and become the strongest opposition in the country. What NGC is doing should be done by us and we must start doing it so that the people out there will relate with us and they will have confidence to vote us in again.”
When asked if he still wants to be the flag bearer of the party, Mr Kamara said “I am young and energetic, I am credible, likable and easy to sell to the people of Sierra Leone, I am confident that if the time comes and I want to put my hat in the ring, I have what it takes to win, but for now I am not talking about flag bearer, I am talking about unity in the party and the reason to make sure our executive continues to be credible, trustworthy and vibrant so that the entire membership and those sitting on the fence will be ready to vote for APC to form the next government in 2023.” He called on all APC members far and wide to come together and work to bring peace and tranquility in the party to work with him to start the peace process so that when the government is celebrating their second year in office they would have been united to sing with one voice if the government has any plans to ban APC politicians.
