The police in Kenema have destroyed a large portion of plants suspected to be marijuana, locally known as jamba. According to Prince Kamara of the Kenema police media office, acting on intelligence reports the police made enquiries about the ownership of a plantation which had a large quantity of the illegal plants but no one claimed it.
The police then reportedly went ahead and destroyed the entire plantation.
The Local Unit Commander (LUC), Vicent Nabieu on his routine visit to the Burma community, reportedly called on the people to discourage such practices in their localities by sensitizing the youth on the harmfulness of marijuana.
He called on the community people to inform the police whenever they notice any such plants being planted in or around their communities.
