As they continue battling with court cases, the deputy opposition leader in Parliament Honourable Ibrahim Ben-Kargbo has disclosed that it is a serious error for anyone to think everything is okay within the APC party presently.
He explained that there are problems within the party that require urgent attention and solution if they are to contest and win the 2023 elections, adding that working in isolation by anyone/faction will not take the party to victory, but rather do more harm.
The Deputy Opposition Leader explained that the party is moving from one court injunction to another, which according to him, if that continues, it will always make it impossible for them to conduct convention on time for them to be well prepared to claim victory in the next elections.
He pleaded for more experienced people within the party to join the campaign to bring peace within the party within the shortest possible time, explaining that the party has the human resource to bring peace, but everyone need to come on board in the interest of the party and not personal.
“If we don’t address the issues of the party now the chances for us to come back to power will be almost impossible,” he said, calling on the party’s hierarchy to see how best they can engage the likes of Dr Abdulai O. Conteh, D. F Shears, J. E. Laverse, Edward Turay, M.L Bangura and Jengo Stevens for them to help bring peace within the APC based on the experiences and love for the party.
He pointed out that all these people do not want to contest for any position within the party neither do they intend to become President or Members of Parliament, but that the party needs them at this crucial time to unseat the SLPP in 2023 elections.
“We need to rescue the party at this time. Persistently going to the court can only dismantle the party rather than uniting it, as you are stopping the party from making progress,” he maintained, suggesting that one way of solving the issue is for some people with anger against others to come out and speak for them to find solution rather than sitting quietly which is destroying their fight towards victory.
Accordingly he said, the MPs are the one’s facing the brunt presently in presenting the position of the party to the public through their contributions in Parliament, but that against is not easy as they are no longer in majority and at the same time they are in opposition.
He however, called for calm and unity within the APC for them to speak with one voice to their supporters come 2023 as losing the 2023 election will be disappointing to the party and supporters locally and internationally. AMK/15/04/2021
