The League Manager of Craig Bellamy Foundation (CBF) Pete Beeley has said that it has been a good month for the foundation’s league as most of the new teams have settled in very well.
He stated that interest in the Craig Bellamy Foundation at ‘its all time high” in the country, and welcomed the teams to what he called its “unique league attendance” at the CBF match and noted his pleasure at seeing the boys responding to the ethos of humility in victory and dignity in defeat.
He said the third CBF season started with a bang in Makeni with inspiring speeches given by some of the boys. In Freetown, the opening ceremony was attended by hundreds of people, while in Kenema, it was marked with a March pass through the town centre; and in Bo, a pitch side celebration was held with music and guests.
The CBF league manager explained that he was particularly pleased that there were no incidences of rough play that could have provoked violent behavior through out the last season. He praised the level of commitment and passion for the game of all the teams and players during the last season.
Mr. Beeley disclosed that few yellow cards and one red card were issued over the last season throughout the country, noting that it clearly demonstrated that the players took on board the messages of fair-play and non-violence earlier being propagated to them.
In another development, preparations for the CBF Girl’s League are now well underway. This year will see six teams in Makeni and six new teams in Kenema, all of whom are excited at the opportunity of taking part in the only structured girls’ development league in the country.
