The Independent Radio Network (IRN) has commenced a road show debate for candidates in the 2012 general election with the aim to create a platform for politicians to discuss with the electorates on issues and party manifestoes.
Several candidates from APC, SLPP, and PMDC among other political parties, participated in the maiden edition of the radio talk road show at Lumley, west end of Freetown, where most of the politicians explained why they should be voted into office during the November 17 election.
The discussions were frank among the candidates and the potential voters present. Some also spoke about their plans, when elected as councillors, Parliamentarians and Mayors.
Ransford Wright of the Independent Radio Network properly explained to the audience about the role of IRN in the 2012 elections, in providing a platform for voters and candidates to meet and talk about national issues especially for peaceful fair and transparent election.
During the radio programme, there was excitement among party supporters, each cheering their candidates for having spoken the best while others were booed at for not addressing the issues, but overall the radio road show on election was a success.
Ransford Wright said IRN hope to continue the road show debate before elections are held.
A British Broadcasting Corporation Journalist Hassan Harouni who is also part of the IRN team cautioned voters to cast their votes wisely for candidates they believe can promote sustainable socio-economic development in the post conflict West African States.
The BBC journalists was speaking to voters during a Radio Talk – Road show programme at Lumley west end of Freetown organized by the Independent Radio Network (IRN) it is aimed at providing a platform for candidates and voters to discuss election related issues on wider Radio Coverage across the country.
The debate was moderated by a popular female presenter at 98.1 Radio Democracy.
