The International Peace day has been observed in over 8 communities in the Northern District of Port Loko.
The program which was organized by War Child Holland, started with a candle light, followed by general prayers and climaxed by peace messages from children, youths the aged and war child project staff in the various localities.
Hundreds of children crammed into the child youth friendly centers which were being constructed by the project itself, with the majority of them displaying placards bearing poems and peace messages at the Kagbanthams project office Marie Koroma and Hawa Conteh a community elder spoke on the importance of peace in co-existence and community development with reference to the just concluded general elections and called for a change of attitude. According to the Field Location Manager for war child in Port Loko Mr Saidu Mansaray, the most impressive occurrence for the day took place at Magbanta, where two people who were not in speaking terms for the past 15 years resolved their differences, while a set of inlaws Ya Wothow Kamara and Ya Memuna Sesay also confessed publicly and reconciled as one people.
War Child Holland started operations here in 2002 targeting the welfare of children and youth through recreational activities, revival of cultural activities capacity building.
