School children have benefitted from a donation of food and non- food items including drugs by International Aid Trust (AIT) in Lungi in the Port Loko District. The items, are worth thousands of dollars.
Chairman of the AIT Board, Reverend Jonathan Titus Williams, said that the organization aims at improving the lives of Sierra Leoneans through agriculture, education, health and also counseling to traumatized people.
He said that they work in deprived communities in Freetown, adding that the reason is to complement government’s effort in reaching out to under-developed areas, to bring about change in the society and environment.
IAT Country Director Reverend Michael Fofanah said that his organization operates in 40 countries in the world including Sierra Leone.
He said that IAT aims at bringing hope to the suffering and help alleviate poverty in every community they operate.
Reverend Michael Fofanah stated that they will continue to create an enabling environment for school-going children to embrace education in the country.
Zonal Supervisor, Ministry of Education Science and Technology in Port Loko District Thaimu Sahid Kamara, commended the New Hope school officials for their work, and said that the school will be approved by Government in the shortest possible time.
He said that the school has grown by the required standard of education.
Receiving the drugs, Doctor-in- charge of the Lungi Government hospital, Dr Osman Kakay expressed appreciation to IAT for their kind and timely gesture, adding that they are the first apart from Government, to donate drugs to their hospital.
Dr. Kakay said that the drugs will benefit thousands of people in Port Loko and it surroundings.
The items donated includes Christmas boxes for the New Hope Preparatory and Primary Schools.
