The three day Inter- Tech Vocational track and field Athletics sports meet started yesterday at the National Stadium with the deputy minister of Education Youth and Sports Lansana Nyalay declaring the meet opened. Speaking to Awoko Sports, Sahid Conteh a member of the ministry of Education Youth and Sports said that 15 Vocational Institutions is participating in the three day meeting which is expected to end tomorrow Friday May 28.
Sahid stated that in this year’s competition the Colleges would not be participating in this year’s competition because of the strike action from some of the colleges and also some of the colleges are on sexams that are why the competition started late.
That is why as a ministry they decided to make this year’s meet only for the Vocational Institutions and come next year and hope that the colleges will come on board to participate in the competition.
He further to appealed to the colleges to try their best to solve their problem very quickly as they have got invitation from Nigeria to participate in the interUniversity athletics meet in Nigeria (Lagos). When asked if he is expecting violence in the competition, Sahid said when it comes to Tech Vocational athletics meet, he has never experience violence.
They always experience violence during schools competition that is why he was pleased with the manner in which the Police personnel performed during the last inter-sec competition that they were able to put the situation under control.
Sahid mentioned that during this three day meet a lot of talented athletes will be discovered which will be good for these vocational Institutions who in the feature will have good teams to represent Sierra Leone in international competition.
