The three days Inter secondary School athletics sport meet is expected to start today Tuesday 6th March 2012 and ends on the 8th March 2012 at the national stadium in Freetown. In this year’s competition about 52 Secondary Schools in the Western Area are expected to participate in the three days track and field athletics sport meet which will be under the distinguished patronage of Dr Minkailu Bah Minister of Education, Science and Technology.
According to the information gathered about 19 events have been lined up for the three day sports meeting and all senior schools will compete in the senior category only and Junior Schools in the Junior Category. Also no repeaters are allowed to take part in the competition
The verification exercise of all those who are to compete in the competition has ended and the forms have been returned to the Physical Health Education (PHE) division, where they have been signed and stamped by the Principal.
The assistant Director of PHE of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Sahid M Conteh has disclosed that they hope to have a successful sports meet this year that will be free from violence.
The reason for that according to Sahid is before the sports meeting they were able to have successful meetings with Principals and PHE teachers of various schools on Tuesday 21st February 2012 at the National Stadium where they discussed several issues like security which is very paramount for such a sport meeting.
He went further that they received a letter from the Inspector General of Police Francis Munu about the violence that always occur after the sport meeting and that was why the meeting was called. During the meeting he said the issue of security was seriously dealt with by all those present as violence always cause problems in inter-sec sports meetings.
