The Inter Religious Council (IRC) of Sierra Leone, eastern region, has during a recent meeting raised concerns about the craze of political violence in that region.
According to the IRC’s eastern region chairman, Rev. Alimamy Papso Kargbo, the meeting was held to address the increase in political violence and instability in Sierra Leone and, what role religious leaders should play in preventing such violence in order to consolidate the peace in the country.
The meeting ended with declarations and commitments by representatives of religious communities, in which they promised to use their pulpits to campaign against any form of violence before, during and after the August 11 polls. He promised that the council would continue to perform its traditional roles of fasting and prayers.
On behalf of the Inter Religious Council (IRC), Rev. Papso Kargbo appealed to all political party supporters and their leaders to abide by the PPRC’s code of conduct.
