“Union initiative approach to the fight against climate change: just transition in countries vulnerable to climate,” is the theme chosen for a three-day residential workshop which gets underway at the Hill Valley Hotel in Freetown this weekend.
According to the Director of Education at the Sierra Leone Labour Congress, Mr. Max Conteh, the workshop which will be attended by top officials of Trade Unions affiliated to the Labour Congress, will be organized by the Sierra Leone Labour Congress in collaboration with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), CDFT France and the Institute Belleville.
The workshop, he said, aims at raising awareness among the Labour Congress affiliates on climate change and its linkages with Trade Onions; discuss the draft ITUC paper on “Just transition in countries vulnerable to climate change,” and to develop Sierra Leone Labour Congress action plan on climate change.
Max Conteh stated that papers will be presented and discussed at the workshop including impact of climate change on the work environment and livelihoods in Sierra Leone; the environment, workers and civil society in Sierra Leone what needs to be done?
The presentations and discussions will be followed by group work involving workshop participants.
