The National Cricket League now running for a month and two weeks continues this weekend with Mid-West Cricket Club battling with the Republic of Sierra Leone Army Forces (RSLAF) in what promises to be a very exciting and thrilling encounter.
Mid-West cricket team which boasts of about 80% of the U-19 team started the competition in very bad formed but they have now improved their performance to the joy of many cricket fans who are witnessing the competition. Their match with RSLAF will put them in a good position if they win the match as they now have 6 points to their credit. A win will give them 9 points thus putting them in a position where they will share the same points with their opponent RSLAF. RSLAF, who lost their last match against their arch rival the Sierra Leone Police Cricket team will be going all out to win the match against Mid-West so that they can remain in the third position. However if they fail to win their chances of winning the league will become very slim. Speaking to Awoko Sports most of the Mid-West Players say they are not going to lose any single match to any other team and they are prepared to create some serious upset for any of their opponents in the league.
They mentioned that when the league started they were not playing as a team and were not focused. That is why they lost three matches but with the kind of determination they have got now they say they are going to spring a lot of surprises before the league ends.
They also boasted that at the end of the league they will also contribute majority of the players to be invited to the national cricket team. The Sierra Leone Police cricket team is now leading the league table with 15 points out of 5 matches played so far while in Second position is Asians cricket club also having 15 points having played six matches and winning five and losing one.
At the bottom of the league table is the Regent Olympic cricket team – they have no point out of five matches played. The Regent Olympic cricket team is also expecting to play Old Edwardians Cricket team tomorrow who lie in fifth position with six points to their credit and they are desperately going for a win against the lesser Regent Olympic cricket team.
A win for them will give them some hope in the competition.
