In an effort to boost the interests of Sierra Leoneans to participate in the biometric voter registration, First Lady Sia Nyama Koroma has launched the Biometric Registration system in Bombali and Kono Districts, with a special appeal to women to fully partake in the process.
Welcoming the First Lady, in well attended meeting, Mayor of Makeni City Council, Moses Sesay commended her for the developmental projects she has been embarking on across the country. He noted that the biometric registration system for this year’s election is very important.
APC Member of Parliament, for Constituency 29, Bombali District, Alimamy Kamara thanked the First Lady for honoring their invitation to launch the biometric system of registration in the district. He appealed to APC supporters to come out in large numbers and register so that they will be able to vote on polling day.
Representatives from various women organizations commended the First Lady for embarking on projects in the areas of health and education.
The women group representatives noted her earlier intervention and the launch of the free health care have helped to reduce the maternal and child mortality considerably and that this has given hope to the women of the country. For her effort in saving the lives of women and children they (women’s group) promise to continue supporting the party.
Launching the system, the First Lady described the event as historic. She commended the women of Bombali for their support to the President and his government, adding that the issue of election is every body’s business being that it is the right of every citizen. She encouraged the women to come out to register so that they can be eligible to vote for the continuation of President Koroma’s ‘Agenda for Change’ which she noted has transformed the country and put it on the right of socio-economic growth. She called patience during the process, stating that the process is new to Sierra Leone and that it is a learning process for all Sierra Leoneans.
In Kono, the First Lady presented sixteen motor bikes to supporters of the APC to monitor the registration process in the eight constituencies. She appealed to the people to register and vote for the President to finish his development programmes he has in mind for the country.
On her way to Freetown she also addressed youths of Massingbi on the importance for them to be part of the registration process.
