It was a shameful day for the senior national cricket team when the U-19 team defeated them by 3 wickets in their first match on Tuesday.The senior team who first took the crease made 179 runs for 8 wickets in 40 overs with Ibrahim Sesay making the highest runs of 35, followed by Alie John Kamara with 26 runs. Lansana Lamin made 24 runs and Sheka Kamara 20 runs not out.
With U-19 bowling Ibrahim Kabia in 8 overs,1 maiden, and 23 runs took 2 wickets, Abubakarr Kamara in 8 overs and 31 runs took 2 wickets, Edward Marrah in 8 overs and 26 runs took 2 wickets, while Solomon Williams in 7 overs and 45 runs took 2 wickets.
Bowling for the senior team was Lansana Lamin who in 5 overs, and 38 runs took 2 wickets, while Alusine Dumbuya and Ibrahim Sesay both in 3 overs and 20 runs took 1 wicket each. Sheka Kamara in 5 overs and 22 runs took 1 wicket and Mustapha Kallon in 8 overs and 44 runs took 1 wicket.
When the U-19 side took the crease they replied with186 runs for 7 wickets in 32.3 overs with Abubakarr Kamara making the highest score in the match for his side with 58 runs, to be followed by Emmanuel Pessima with 21 runs, Mohamed Alie Bangura and Balowa Mansaray with 19 runs respectively and Ibrahim Mansaray 18 runs. During the match the U-19 side was more composed and they showed more maturity than the senior team which had most of its players suffering from fatigue.
The next match will be played on Tuesday 3rd February and the U-19 team has also vowed to win.
