The Sierra Leone U-17 Cricket Team has defeated the combined team, which comprised of national players, at the Kingtom Oval in Freetown by 5 wickets five points and 5 overs to spare.
The Combined Team battled first and was bowled out for 116 runs with Gabriel Anthony making the highest score for his side with 26 runs, while Alie John Kamara made 19 runs and Jacob Mansaray 18 runs.
Onesimus Bull and Edward Marrah took three wickets each, with Issa James securing two wickets also for his side.
When the U-17 team took the crease it was a different situation, as they were able to make 117 runs for the loss of five wickets with Ibrahim Mansaray making the highest score for his side with 47 runs; Julius Ouee made 17 runs and Brima Ansumana 11 runs not out.
The two sides would be meeting again in two weeks time. The Public Relations Officer of the Association, Allieu Bockarie said that if the U-17 boys could maintain this performance they would retain the trophy for the second consecutive time.
Some of the national players told Awoko Sports that they lost the match because they were not engaged in intensive training for a long time as compared to the U-17 team, who were preparing for the pending competition in Nigeria.
