As speculations continue to rise on the outcome of the just- concluded elections results, the Independent Media Commission (IMC) together with the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) yesterday issued a joint statement, admonishing media practitioners to refrain from disseminating definitive pre-emptive or inaccurate statements about the general elections.
According to the statement, Heads of both Commissions observed that there have been numerous provocative, inflammatory and inciting messages, since the end of the voting period, as Justice Tolla Thompson and Rod Mac-Johnson, Head of PPRC and IMC respectively, continue to appeal to the media for them to help diffuse the tension building during the period leading to the official pronouncement of the elections result, by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) chairperson, Madam Christiana Thorpe.
Both Chairpersons deliberated on planned activities in order to sensitize the media and members of the public on various consequences of negative media coverage, on the populace during this period, as both Commissions agreed to hold regular consultative meetings, as a means of enhancing voter education and prevent the escalation of rumour- mongering and association tension.
