The International Insurance Company (IIC) (SL) Limited has bid farewell to its former Chairman of its Board, Dr. Bernard G. Frazer and at the same time welcome his predecessor Henry Macauley.
Various dignitaries from all spheres of life graced the ceremony at the Bintumani Hotel on Wednesday evening in which Mrs. Jennifer Renner-Thomas also took her leave from the IIC.
Welcoming guests at the occasion, the Managing Director of IIC, Nduka Anyaso, noted that the company had performed creditably and excellently, during the tenure of Dr. Frazer’s Chairmanship.
He enumerated some of the achievements of the company under his watch, which includes steady growth and increased profitability from a loss bottom line in 2003 to a position of Profit-After-Tax of Le618 million in 2008, opening of Bo branch, remarkable increase in asset-base and other performance ratios
Mr. Anyaso commended Dr. Frazer for his exemplary leadership and affirmed that, even though he had retired as Chairman, but as a shareholder of the company, Dr. Frazer was still part of the IIC family.
Responding to the honour, Dr. Frazer thanked the Board, Management and staff of IIC, for their co-operation over the years as Chairman and enjoined them to accord the new Chairman similar or even more co-operation.
He specially thanked the owner of IIC, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu for the opportunity he gave him to serve as a Director of the Insurance Company and congratulated the new Chairman, Akin Macauley, on his appointment and urged him to maintain the growth momentum of IIC. “I am handing over the baton to you to continue from where I stopped, to lead IIC, which is the fastest growing Insurance Company today in Sierra Leone, to greater heights”, he asserted.
Dr. Frazer concluded that he had a great time in IIC, and that he would miss working with the team. “As I take my leave of IIC, naturally, I do so with nostalgia, with mixed feelings of leaving a part of a family I have been used to for many years.
But I take solace in the belief that we will still continue to co-operate with each other in all our future endeavours. We still remain partners in progress”.
A well articulated citation of the new Chairman was delivered by IIC’s Manager, Business Development, Jabez Rogers-Wright who enumerated some of the personal and professional attainments of Henry Akin Macauley.
The new Chairman was described among other encomiums, as one of the few living legends of modern banking in Sierra Leone, who had excelled when the colonial masters held sway and still remain a colossus in the industry today.
The new IIC chairman, Henry Akin Macauley, thanked Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the outgoing Chairman and the Managing Director for reposing confidence in him.
He praised the effort of Dr. Frazer in the making of today’s IIC and looked forward to seeking his advice, from the benefit of his wealth of experience as Board Member of the Company from inception and promised that his tenure would usher a new vista of growth and stability to the company, stressing that team work, discipline, focus and professionalism were recipe for corporate growth.
The evening ended with the presentation of parting gifts to Dr. Bernard Frazer and Mrs. Jennifer Renner-Thomas by the Vice Chairman of IIC, Chief Tony Chinyere.
