The International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) representative, Cheik Thaire has settled the long standing dispute in the Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA) between the two rival groups fighting for leadership in the association.
The IAAF rep, who came from Senegal, was able to identify some of the problems as he met with key the stakeholders, Andre Hope and Sundufu Sowa.
After the mediation, Thaire disclosed that both parties have done wrong; and appealed for the reinstatement of Sundufu Sowa to his position as Secretary General of the Association.
When the position of Andre Hope’s wife as Treasurer was brought up, Thiare said that it was legal but at the same time immoral for the President’s wife to hold such position in the Association; as such her wife must step down from the position.
The reinstatement of the Andre Hope’s executive was deferred; but after the final discussions, a compromise was reached as both Andre Hope and Sundu-Sowa were reinstated to their previous positions, with other positions filled by both parties.
