The Mayoral candidate of the Revolutionary United Front Party, Paul Mahmoud Karim, has spoken about his plans to transform the health system in the municipality of Freetown, so as to reduce deaths among the citizens.
In an interview with AWOKO yesterday, Paul said the priority of the council is to complement government efforts in improving health care delivery in the 17 constituencies and 49 wards within the Western Urban Area.
He said the major referral Hospitals across the City are overcrowded and distances to hospitals are also causing the deaths of many patients.
He also stated that revenue mobilization will also be enhanced through decentralized system at ward level by strengthening of the ward committee at ward level, with offices for councilors to discuss issues affecting the council.
He blamed the past administration of nepotism and tribalism which he said is deep rooted in the local council and that most council officers are not competent for their positions, which he plans to change for the effective performance of the council.
He stated that to be a Mayor of Freetown does not, mean you have to be a krio by tribe according to the electoral laws of Sierra Leone.
He also spoke about plans to improve toilet facilities within the Freetown municipality and vowed to continue to be a member of the RUFP except otherwise.
