One of Sierra Leone’s finest stand-up comedians, Desmond Benya on Monday refuted allegations that he was involved in the fracas between supporters of Rtd. Julius Maada Bio and John Benjamin at the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Headquarters on Friday.
Speaking to Awoko, he said, “I was dismayed by the information I heard, alleging that I attacked the leader and Chairman of the SLPP”.
He made it clear that he had never been involved in active politics. I am a permanent staff of NASSIT and a stand-up comedian doing entertainment both locally and internationally.
Benya reiterated that “I am not a registered SLPP member, but only support President Koroma, adding that President Koroma is my personal friend and support him for his development work”.
The story in the local media, he said, is false and advised people not to use his name falsely, adding that on that Saturday, he was having a radio discussion programme called NASSIT hour and after that he went to chair different marriages.
“I am not brutal but I make people laugh”, he said, adding I have never involved in any violent act. My police record is clear.
