Over two hundred and fifty livestock have died in Madina village in Malema Chiefdom , Kailahun District since January this year.
Speaking to Sualiamona Monya Community Teachers Association (CTA), the Chairman at Madina and Umaru Mansour of the same village, explained that before now, Madina village had up to one thousand livestock.
The former Protected Area Manager of the Gola Forest Program, John Moriba, explained that every week they bury two to five or more goats and sheep.
They said a certain disease which they do not know is disturbing their livestock.
When asked whether they eat the animals when they die, Monya said at the initial stage some time last year they ate the animals, but that they have stopped doing so. Residents in the village are now worried that the disease may transfer to humans.
