Hundreds of residents in Kenema have been displaced by recent flooding. The heavy rains got worse on Tuesday 6th August 2019 and resulted in flooding. Some residents moved to their relatives. Areas that felt the flooding included: Kpetewoma section, Jakuba street, all communities along the Lambayei stream that runs across the city from the Kambui hill to the Moa river.

The Mayor of Kenema Council, Thomas Bandabla Tagbeteh Baio, and his team moved around to assess the damage. Every year Kenema experiences flooding. Mitigation efforts have not resulted in any significant decrease in floods.
