With consciousness and awareness of their rights to work and pay, a huge proportion of security guards of the Hughes Security International yesterday besieged their Kissy House office at 54 Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown, to mob the executive Chairman and other officials of that agency in protest for their salaries.
According to the protesters, they were fed up with the inhuman treatment meted out to them by members of the top executive of that agency, as they cited the British born executive chairman Glamour Hugh and his alleged concubine Maria Johnson and the accountant, Josephus Brown, as been very callous and unreasonable.
The guards also pointed out that it has now become habitual for that office to unnecessarily hold on to their meager salaries on a monthly basis without due consideration of their welfare. The situation is now going out of control as schools are about to be reopened, they said
They noted that, every client pays a stipulated contractual fee of $ 300 US Dollars per day for the service rendered by every security guard, but that these payments do not reflect in their monthly pay as they are paid between Le 120, 000 to Le 140, 000 a month, adding that taxes are also deducted from these meager salaries.
Report says the Accountant, Josephus Brown is fond of inciting guard inspectors against junior guards on duty so that they would end up recommending anyone who poses as a threat to the agency for untimely redundancy.
Talking from a collective point of view, the guards categorically alleged that, the said accountant does not only delay payment of salaries, but most times physically assault and insult them with impunity.
The executive chairman was alleged to have said that, he would only authorize the payment of salaries to the disgruntled security guards at his own convenience, probably within the next couple of weeks.
They complained that they are now faced with embarrassment for payment of local tax to the Freetown City Council, noting that the agency had already deducted local tax from their previous salaries with no receipt issued to them for justification.
Efforts to talk to the top management on: +232 642727 proved futile.
