The Western Area Hospital Board has commended Guma Valley for the continuous water supply and the re-connection of its water facility to Connaught hospital that has been having problems since the rehabilitation in April 2006.
Inspite of the breakdown of Guma supply due to the damaged pipe at Angola Town, the company has done its utmost to alleviate the suffering in the city especially the hospital which is an essential area.
The hospital was receiving water through bowsers and now they have been re-connected to get reliable water supply regularly.
In a letter dated 17th September, the Board Secretary S.K. Garber wrote to the general manager of Guma “on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and the Connaught Hospital in particular, wish to extend its sincere thanks and appreciation for the services in assisting in the re-connection of the water facility to the hospital.”
It will be recalled that the continuous interruption of water supply to Connaught had become an issue of concern to both the government and the management of Connaught to the extent that the government appealed to Guma to make provisions for the hospital to be provided with reliable supply of water.
Speaking to the Guma Boss, Ibrahim Wilson said the company is working on plans to provide water supply to other important commercial institutions in the central business District even though they are faced with problems.
On the question of access to water by residents in the city, the manager averred that after further consultations with the government, Guma will soon embark on the erection of 150 public taps in which 60 would be erected in the West, 50 in Central and 40 in the East end of the city.
He however made it clear that users will be required to pay a minimal amount to the company for the services rendered.
