Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – The management of one of Makeni’s growing local networks, Hope FM is offering a massive prize of NLe 50,000 at the inaugural Makeni New Skool Musical Festival which is tipped to be an exciting event, taking place at the city plaza in Makeni tonight.
The inaugural edition is expected to feature twenty up-and-coming musicians and established veterans competing in five different categories, and the massive prize money has been announced by the show organizers, Hope FM.
Speaking in a Friday afternoon interview with Awoko Newspaper, Mohamed Stanley Bangura, the Station Manager of Hope Radio in Makeni, explained that the purpose of the festival is to support and promote emerging musical talent.
“Many of these artists possess great talent but struggle to organize their own concerts due to logistical challenges, so this festival aims to provide them with a platform to showcase their skills and rise in the music industry.”
The upcoming event, with the theme “A path way to breakthrough musically,” includes performances from twenty new skool musicians such as Augu B, Med Pee, Jes D, Denno Best, and Peace Kids. In their respective categories each rising singer will compete in four distinct categories, namely: Best Hip Hop, Best Dancehall, Best R&B Male, and Best R&B Female, the manager further said.
In addition to these talented newcomers, renowned musicians like Governor Blaq, Tunksman, Cel J, SL State, JayTee, Lady Nancy, and Affliction have been confirmed as guest artists. Each new skool artist according to him will have ten minutes to impress the judges, who are a team of credible entertainers. They will evaluate the performances and determine the winners across the different categories and each category winner will be awarded a star prize of NLe 10,000
Largely, this initiative by Hope FM is not only aimed at uplifting upcoming musicians but also at inspiring the public to invest in and support these new talents who are the future of the music industry.
Manager Bangura has extended a clarion invitation to everyone to join them at Makeni city plaza at 8:00pm on Saturday, November 18 for what promises to be an unforgettable musical festival, stressing that “this event will mark the beginning of what they hope will become an annual tradition that cannot be missed.” ARW/18/11/2023
