Police personnel in Kenema spent a sleepless night last Monday on the Bo-Kenema highway as they tried to protect life and property of the citizens of this nation.
According to the Regional crime officer Samuel Sanie Sesay, around 3am a fish truck coming from Freetown met a barricade of wood sticks on the Bo-Kenema highway at a place called Ngelehun which is about two miles from Blama in the Small Bo chiefdom in the Kenema district. This may have been done to force the vehicle to stop so that the armed robbers can now plunder it. These types of road blocks were more common during the days of the rebel war.
Crime Officer Sesay said the truck had to drive through and bulldozed down the barricade. When they came to Blama they informed the police about the incident. The police in Blama immediately alerted the police headquarters in Kenema who then stopped all vehicles plying the road to and from Kenema for the rest of the night.
Vehicle use to ply the highway through out on a twenty four hours basis, but the AIG east Elizabeth Turay said she will be ready to engage the armed robbers and therefore called on the public to provide the police with vital information for the benefit of all in the country.
Now meetings are going on with stakeholders in Kenema city as a way of combating the ugly situation. A week ago a motorbike rider Mohamed Konneh from Bo town was slaughtered at Bayama junction on the same highway and the assailants burnt down the motor bike.
