“I have walked for over ten years with this pain checking from one hospital to another and have drunk one prescription to another. I did not know what was child bearing and my menstrual period took over two weeks while most times pain in my stomach was the order of the day”
That was the confession of Yeli Turay after being cured by a herbalist at Krootown road of an ailment which she said was in her stomach for ten years.
Explaining her ordeal yesterday to Awoko after she claimed she had been cured, she said she was taken to the herbalist by a friend and when they were at the herbalists residence, she said she was told that her problem only needed an herbalist attention.
Explaining further how she was cured, Yeli narrated that “He started administering treatment to me by instructing me to buy cassava leaves and boil it to drink. By then my stomach was projected as if I was pregnant but when I started drinking the herb, it started coming down through my frequent urine. My public area which was beginning to deteriorate started to improve also” she said.
Yeli further explained that the day the herbalist told her that she would be operated it was astonishing to her stating that “I was told not to be ashamed and should pretend as if I am in a theater and a concoction was given to me to drink and I felt something stripping down from my private organ as if I was delivering a baby”. She said when the bulky substance came out, it came with its after birth and other things on newly born babies. The herbalist that cured Yeli, Lamin Kalokoh explained also to Awoko that ‘growth and fibroid’ were the diseases that many women have died from and says it is a disease that develops in the stomach of women causing great discomfort to them.
He said the disease causes women to frequently discharge and waste blood.
He proudly said he had discovered a leaf that works with cucumber seeds that he uses to cure women with that disease. “This leaf is chewed and it is like an okra that goes in to the stomach to destroy the ‘growth or fibroid’.”
The herbalist said he had tried to preserve the fibroid but that because of lack of chemicals, they rot.
He said when the cure is done, the woman becomes free and is removed from all discomfort.
“The ‘growth comes out like a frog and sometimes like a coconut. Its stench is unbearable but it has life and moves” he stated.
