The President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Henry Moore competition organized in Lungi was well attended by football fans within the township.
The competition is organized on a knock out basis with eight different teams taking part in the competition which is played at the Don Bosco Youth Centre in Lungi.
Before the start of the competition Mohamed Noah Koroma who is in charge of football at the Don Bosco youth centre in his statement thanked those members from the National Olympic Committee who were present during the open ceremony saying this is a sign that they are prepared to promote sports in the country.
He also mentioned that in the youth centre they have different games they are providing for the youth in the centre.
That is why in the evening hours youths are coming to be centre to play the games and the fathers at the centre are doing their best for the youth and sports.
He also said that Don Bosco Youth Centre lacks the necessary equipments to development sports in the centre and appealed to the National Olympic Committee to come on board to assist them so that their dreams for the centre will be achieved in the shortest possible time.
Speaking on behalf of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Public Relations Officer two Lansana Claye said that the President Moore is very happy for the competition that is organized by the people of Lungi that why we are here to grace the occasion
He mentioned that this time around this present NOC executive are planning to change sports in the country and to make sure that the message of NOC is spread all over the country so that people will know what NOC is doing, that is why they have decided to have a PR wing to spread the message of NOC.
He went further to assure the people of Lungi and the Don Bosco youth centre of NOC support at all times.
A strong football fan in the Lungi community division Edwin O Moore who took the kick off before the match started is also the training of rescue fire officers appealed to the teams to avoid violence during the competition.
He also mentioned that during the competition many players with a lot of talent will be discovered which will be benefit to the Lungi Committee as these players are the future players of the country.
In the opening match Young Sinnah FC defeated Don Bosco by 7 goals to six (7-6) in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw to move to the semi final stage of the competition.
During the match both teams displayed their talent and the match was a tough one as both teams were expecting to move into the next stage of the competition.
During the match both teams created possible chances to score but they failed to deliver as both teams can also boast of concrete defence lines that were well composed. The competition continues today.
