The minister of Health and Sanitation, Abator Thomas, yesterday officially launched her ministry’s web at the ministry’s conference room.
The minister noted that communications strategy of the government adopted by cabinet in November 2005 identified public information dissemination as crucial to democracy and instrumental to sustaining peace and development in Sierra Leone.
She added that, “the official website of the health and sanitation ministry initiated by me and in collaboration with my top management team aims to provide accurate up to date and vital information of the work and achievements of the ministry and government to all our partners, stakeholders, and the media in and out of Sierra Leone.”
Ms. Abator Thomas remarked that it was hoped that it would also open channels of communication between and among the ministry, stakeholders, partners and the media through the chat room.
She explained that, “the structure of the website is based on pages that give you information on the structure of the ministry as a whole, information on the professional and administrative wings, -doctorates and programmes of the ministry, news and current events, districts information, policies, plans, speeches, reports, statistics among others.”
The health minister invited the public on a daily basis to see current events and activities, “which are on the front page when you are researching to write about health it will give accurate facts and figures”.
She revealed that the ministry had secured the domain: www.health .sl for this official website, adding that the website had been up and running for a few months now.
Mr Kashow Wellington, who served as chairman of the occasion, congratulated the ministry for taking such a venture.
He added that, “with this investors, consultants, and researchers who want to know about Sierra Leone will now have good information before they come in the country”.
