The PMDC National Publicity Secretary Mohamed Bangura narrowly escaped death Monday night, but his watchman Jimmy is in critical condition, and currently under intensive medical care at a private Hospital at ‘Up Gun’ Eastern Freetown.
In an interview with Awoko yesterday Mr. Mohamed Bangura first and foremost registered his profound gratitude to the Minister of Information and Communication IB Kargbo and the Inspector General of Police Brima Acha Kamara for mobilizing a rescue team to save his little life from unidentified element who stormed his house in Waterloo in the evening hours of Monday 1st March 2009.
“Had it not been the timely response of IB Kargbo and the Inspector General of Police Brima Acha Kamara, I would have died” he proclaimed.
According to Bangura, it all unfolded like a drama when the PMDC strong man had just returned from evening prayers, and was watching television when he heard a loud noise around his compound and watching outside in his compound he saw some unidentified men beating up his watch man, this he said was followed by a gun shot and firing of tear gas which made him to conceal himself in the ceiling as the guys were forcing their way through.
“While suffocating in the ceiling I managed to call my boss IB Kargbo and the IG and they wasted no time in mobilizing a rescue team who materialized at my house in less than 20 minutes but the guys had taken to their heels” he narrated.
He said they came with rubbers of acid which they left behind on the arrival of the police team at the scene.
On the question of whether it was a politically motivated attack on him, he said he was in good talking terms with both members of APC and SLPP and would not want to cast aspersion now as police had begun investigation into the matter.
He said the guys went with a jeep and a taxi cab which was later apprehended together with its owner one retired Captain Jalloh but the real actors are yet to be arrested.
“I cannot tell whether they were APC or SLPP but I don’t want to believe that those guys were real thieves because the time of arrival was too early and besides they never concentrated on wealth instead they pounced on the poor watchman” he stated.
He said “I was powerless in the eyes of those elements, had I a weapon in my possession I would have over powered them”.
He however confirmed that his 21 inches television, a laptop and a bag containing 2.8 million Leones were carted away.
He confirmed that his party (PMDC) is still together but however took exemption to wide spread rumour that they had any marriage with the APC.
“We have never had any marriage with APC, we only formed an alliance but we still remain as an independent political party irrespective of any recent developments within the rank and file of our party” he confirmed.
